Synopsis
Break through the pane and you can open the window within. The debut feature film from A24’s youngest up and coming director, twenty-year-old Kane Parsons, BACKROOMS is a psychological horror that will have you questioning those in-between places in everyday life. Clark (Chiwetel Ejiofor) a depressed and misanthropic furniture store owner feeling stuck in the simplicity of his life, one night discovers a doorway in his store that transports him to the haunting and unending backrooms. After sharing his discovery with his therapist Mary (Renate Reinsve), Clark sets out to prove their existence, unaware of the dangers within. Inspired by the viral YouTube short films Parsons created in his teens under the alias Kane Pixels, The Backrooms (Found Footage) and with gripping performances from Oscar winner Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) and Oscar nominee Renate Reinsve (Sentimental Value), BACKROOMS is an unnerving exploration of loneliness, that will make you question how far someone will go to prove that they’re right. Get lost in the Backrooms and see how far they go.

Reviews
“Backrooms is an unnerving, atmospheric nightmare with outstanding yellow-tinged 90s-core imagery, creepy creature design, and deeply unsettling vibes. Chiwetel Ejiofor & Renate Reinsve are excellent, as always.”
— The Playlist
“Backrooms is a perfect nightmare. Kane Parsons is the present and the future. Believe. ”
— Beyond Fest
“Audiences will be on the edge of their seats during the events on screen, and on edge long after they have left the cinema. A sense of dread will creep into the bottom of their stomach every time they enter a room with yellow-tinged walls”
— Flick Feast
“Thanks to Parsons’ spellbinding command of lighting, perspective and the placement of objects, the world constructed around Clark’s oblique odyssey into the unknown feels chillingly real.”
— The Daily Telegraph
“Combining found footage with traditional filmmaking, Backrooms perfectly encapsulates the terrifying nature of liminal spaces. Those who have long been obsessed with the horror lore should adore this.”
